Happy two weeks of "parenting," Amanda and Jon!
In the morning we did some weighing and found the Luna is over a pound! Wow, that's exciting. She's our little porker. Bello is doing well too, he's reached a half of a pound, which is up 5 oz from where we started. Seems like he's just little...but he's doing pretty well :)

Day 13: Thursday
YAY! Success with the litter box! Kitties are getting so big! Luna and Bello have been using the litter box pretty well - with only a few "mistakes" here and there. (Amanda learned after feeding them that doing anything but putting them directly in the litter box is a bad idea... Luna peed all over Jon's sleeping bag. Woops!)
Both are doing well, and we've pretty much decided on Bello for "Bella". Although both Jon and Amanda are trying to retrain themselves not to say "she" or "Bella".... oh, our poor little gender confused kitty!!!

Day 12 Night: New space!
We created a new set up for the kitties because they were sleeping in the kitty crate at night (Luna had figured out how to climb out of the box...) and decided that was too small for the night time and also the day when we were there. We took a mattress box and folded it, sectioning off a corner of the room. Towels and kitty pad are on the right, litter pan on the left. (Litter pan being the lid to a can that Amanda's mother sent cookies in)
They used the litter pan too! Luna got it faster than Bello. (Although Bello is getting it little by little...)

Our little piggies have been growing and growing.
Here's some weigh-ins from Days 11-12, plus some kitty play time photos!
Luna weighs in.
Bello weighs in.
Luna playing.
Bello's right eye (left if you're looking at it) got a little infection. On Wednesday Jon took the kitties to the vet and we got some ointment for the eye.
Bello: "This is my new friend!!"
Luna plays on the sleeping bag.
Oooo! There's a toy ahead!!
Bello likes to play with mommy's toes.
Hi Camera!
coming for the toys!
more playtime
little mouse friend!
Luna is so photogenic...

Playing makes us hungry! Luna begins eating like a pig.
Bello eats like a piggie.

Kitties weigh in on Day 10
While we thought we adopted two kitties - turns out we have two piggies. Today our first late afternoon feeding, we went through a bottle and a half of KMR. The second feeding? Nearly a whole bottle. It seems like we can't refill the bottle fast enough!

Bello/Forza at 5.7 oz!!! YAY!!!
Happy One-Week of Parenting! (as of Saturday)
Saturday meant happy one-week of parenthood with the kitties!
It was also the first day that the kitties were left alone for longer chunks of time. Amanda and Jon spent the day moving Amanda's things to Jon's house before we move into our new home :) We were able to stretch out feedings to about 4 hours, give or take. While we're not going to make a habit of that just yet - it's good to know they've progressed enough to be able to do that once in a while.
Luna is teetering around 11 oz now, "Bella" around 5 oz. That's exciting for both.
We haven't decided if Bella's new name will be "Bello" (still meaning beautiful in Italian) or "Forza" - which means "strength" in Italian. We also thought of doing "Vino" - but Amanda would rather do that for a dog sometime way later in life. Both Bello and Forza are adorable and both fitting - it's just a matter of deciding. (Let us know what you think!!)
Sunday was Easter and the kitties met new friends! (Justin, Kevin, and Kaetlynn - although Justin is not pictured below because he's allergic.) They did very well and Bello/Forza even let Kaetlynn feed him! (He didn't really let Jared do that before)
We also had to change formulas AGAIN. We can't seem to find the Hartz canned formula we had been using for the past few days... so instead we switched to KMR powdered formula. The other nice thing about this is that we have the opportunity to be more economical...in that we can choose to make a little at a time and it won't go bad as fast as the other formula. We also bought KMR Weening formula, because Luna should be ready soon to be weened - even though Bello/Forza was more open to the food during our dry-food experiment...

Day 6: Vet visit, Lots of #2, and a name change needed
Bella and Luna took a trip to the vet today because Luna had stool that was slightly green. We wanted to make sure she was okay, so we took precaution. Bella also has had pretty runny stool, so "she" came along too.
Both kittens did REALLY well in the car. We think it's because Amanda is a slow driver, and Jon likes to drive real fast.
Both were weighed at the vet... Bella at 5.1 oz, Luna at 1 lb. We know that's not right though, because both before and after the vet Luna was around 10 oz. Maybe one of the vet techs was thinking that 1 lb = 10 oz?
Both kitties did great at the vet. They were both pretty calm and just hanging out.
Luna caught the vet off guard though, because when the vet picked her up, she decided to pee everywhere! I think that means potty training time for Luna is right around the corner!!
As for the stool? That could just be because it takes a little while for change in diets to affect the kitten... we did change formulas, so it could be it. (Let it also be known that later that day, after one more green stool, Luna then had a more normal-colored one.)
The vet commented about how good Bella looks in just the few days since he has seen "her" last. That made me feel really good.
Luna was verified as a little lady... and Bella? Definitely a boy. Guess that name is not going to work out after all...

Kitties hanging out at the vet
Hi Mom! Look how good we look!
Napping in the carrier on the way back.
As the dish says, they are "SPOILED"...so it's fitting. Today we tried some dry food mixed with kitty formula! Bella experimented, Luna wanted nothing to do with it.
Bella: "Oooh, what is this?"
Bella's not sure if she likes it yet.
Normally, the gross stuff is left out of the blog... however we felt the need for a visual in how much the kitties can go in one elimination period. (This time, both had to go #2!)
Post-poop nap!
Sort of napping... sort of awake...
Bella's weight around 7.30 pm
Luna's weight around 7.30 pm
